Day 5 Hampshire, Dorset and into Somerset.
Day 5. The start of the return journey. Six and a half hours in the saddle and 60 miles on road and trail. After a very wet and stormy night I was woken early at 6 AM by a very loud human alarm clock having a conversation just outside my tent ....... as it happens it was to my advantage as I was able to pack up in the dry and get to the 9.00 AM ferry before the rain started. This meant I had to deal with rush hour traffic in Lymington and the only Road Rage incident of the whole trip.( I was holding up traffic trying to turn right going up hill!) However, I was soon out of the built up environment and into the open heathland of the New Forest. One pleasant surprise was the North Dorset Trackway that runs fron Blandford Forum to Sturminster Newton along an old railway track. A distance of about 8 Miles. It rained on and off all day but mercifully stopped for enogh time to pitch my tent at my last campsite at Toomer Farm near Milborne Port just in Somerset once again.Read More
